Wekie Arithmetic’s annual competition is Wekie Education’s most anticipated event of the year, but with the pandemic taking place, they will have to evolve with time to make sure that the competition can go on. The challenge faced was how to retain the competition spirit through a virtual setting, especially when their target audience involves young children. Wekie engaged us to create the user interface design and experience for the competition App as well as to strategise the launch of the competition.
We worked on creating an identity to match the competition spirit, leveraging from Wekie’s brand characters to depict the fun and exciting atmosphere. The main identity derives from the objective to determine Wekie’s Champion of the year, hence the name Wekie Champ. As the essence of the competition revolves around speed and accuracy, we applied the racing theme to create the appropriate competition atmosphere. Then, we worked on the user interface and experience (UI & UX) of the App to make sure that it is easy to navigate for children as young as 4 years old!
Once the Wekie Champ App was set in place, we worked hand-in-hand with Wekie to launch a close competition amongst their students, combining online & offline efforts from planning out the registration flow to launching on competition day. We incorporated clips from the previous year to introduce that Wekie Champ will be held virtually for the first time. Then we combined visuals & animation videos to introduce the new Wekie Champ theme to draw attention and encourage participation, which leads to a whooping number of 500 over participants! The Wekie Champ App is so easy to navigate that the children were having so much fun racing for the best results.
As the close competition was a huge success, Wekie decided to bring Wekie Champ to the National level. This time Wekieis able to follow through the strategies and execution we’ve planned out, and roll it out on their own, achieving double the success of participation rate.
